The beginning

Newcastle United were founded in 1892. Formed when Newcastle East End took over the assets of defunct rivals Newcastle West End and moved into St James' Park, adopting the name Newcastle United in December 1892. Fans know the club as the Magpies, after their black-and-white stripes.
