The 2026/27 season

Coventry City are back in the Premier League after twenty-five years away.

Frank Lampard's side won the Championship last season and return to the top flight for the first time since 2000/01. The club broke its transfer record over the summer to bring in goalkeeper Carl Rushworth, and the campaign begins on the opening Friday night away at the champions Arsenal, under the lights at the Emirates.

The club has backed promotion with real spending in the market. Fees below are the figures reported across sources rather than always officially disclosed. Full details sit on the official site.

In Carl Rushworth joins as goalkeeper from Brighton & Hove Albion on a permanent deal, a reported club-record fee £22.5m. In Loum Tchaouna arrives on the wing from Burnley for a reported £20m. In Aurele Amenda signs at centre-back from Eintracht Frankfurt for a reported £15.4m. In Frank Onyeka is made permanent from Brentford after his loan, a reported £6.8m. Manager Frank Lampard leads the club into the top flight after his appointment in November 2024 and the title win that followed.

No significant outgoing sales have been confirmed at the time of writing. We could not verify departures either way, so we are not listing any. The official club site has the latest.

On transfers, the club-record sale is Viktor Gyokeres to Sporting CP in 2023, a fee the club did not disclose but which was widely reported at around £20m. In August 2026 Coventry agreed a new club-record signing, reported at roughly £26m, for Caleb Yirenkyi; that number will settle once the move is completed.
