Manchester United's membership scheme is Official Membership, with a higher Premium Membership tier; membership is required to buy tickets. You generally need an Official or Premium Membership to buy home tickets; the biggest league games are allocated by a members' ballot, other fixtures are released through member sales, and only lower-demand games are likely to reach a general sale.
Away tickets
The away allocation at Old Trafford is typically ~3,000, housed in the SE quadrant. Away tickets are prioritised by season ticket holders and away loyalty, with points earned by attending away games and a ballot or priority order favouring the longest-held season tickets and most away attendance; allocations are small and heavily oversubscribed.

Returns and resale
