How the transfer window works

Premier League clubs can only sign and register players during an open window. There are two each season: a long summer window before the campaign and after the early rounds, and a shorter winter window in January. Outside these windows clubs cannot bring in new players, other than free agents in limited circumstances.

For Premier League clubs, loans follow the same windows as permanent transfers: the summer loan deadline was 1 September 2026, and loans reopen with the winter window on 1 January 2027. Free agents can still be signed outside the windows in limited circumstances.
