The beginning
Everton were founded in 1878. Formed as St Domingo FC in 1878 so a Methodist chapel congregation could keep playing sport through the winter, renamed Everton after the local district in 1879. Fans know the club as the Toffees.

As of the 2026/27 season the trophy cabinet holds 9 top-flight league titles, 5 FA Cups, plus European Cup Winners' Cup 1985.
