The beginning
Everton were founded in 1878. Formed as St Domingo FC in 1878 so a Methodist chapel congregation could keep playing sport through the winter, renamed Everton after the local district in 1879. Fans know the club as the Toffees.

As of summer 2026 the trophy cabinet holds 9 top-flight league titles, 5 FA Cups, plus European Cup Winners' Cup 1985.
